Christmas Sonnet

afghanistan_kids_childrenThis time of year, gathered here, in the warm.
Inside, we have heating and chairs. We glow!
In other nations, fractured, at war, all torn,
Suffering and broken, no friends, just foe.

Inside, we have heating and chairs. We glow!
We sit and write letters to unknown friends.
We can’t feel their plight and misery, how can we know?
For, now the year has gone, they don’t know their end.

In other nations, fractured, at war, all torn
Suffering, broken, over hills, no friends, just foe.
Fathers at war, they wonder why they’re born.
Here, warm, comfy and safe. Will we ever know?

Suffering, broken, over hills, no friends, just foe.
Inside, we have heating and chairs. We glow!

SwordFish

On the horizon, the clear
silhouette. The fuel gauge nudges
half way and it’s time to
release my load. A button
pressed, sees the torpedo
drilling through the clear blue
ocean, dissecting the hull
and plummeting the
depths of your armoury.
Such satisfaction.
